There are no random events and no moving enemies in XOR. Your task is to guide two shields to collect all of the masks and find an exit door in each of 15 mazes. This is made very difficult by the hazards and obstacles in each maze, which generally have to be manipulated in ingenious ways, and the limit of 2000 moves per level.

Map pieces can be collected to reveal different quartiles of the map. The map deliberately only shows walls and masks, and the exit door.

The whole game is like a weird nightmare quite honestly!

You WILL get soft-locked a lot in this game. Therefore I have created a "rewind" facility to allow you to retrace your steps to an earlier point. Imagine trying to play this without that!!

When you complete some levels you get a clue to the nature of XOR. This was actually part of a competition, the prize being membership of the Order of XOR. To this day, nobody seems to know if anyone ever won it!

I can only do about 6 levels myself, but I do have access to solutions for all the levels and I've tested them on this game, so I know they are all possible! Even if they are highly improbable!

If you are smart enough to complete a level, the game will give you the option to save the replay code for the completed level. Mainly because they are fun to watch! However you CAN save a replay code at any time by pressing "P" from inside the game. To view the replay, from inside the level again, press "L" to load the replay code, and watch it go! Unless it's for the wrong level, in which case watch it get confused! :P

Unusually I've decided to only use keyboard controls in this game, except of course for copying and pasting the save codes.

As well as the 15 original BBC Micro levels, there are another 17 levels inside the project. You can get to them from the menu by using the "N" and the "B" keys. The "Additional" levels are the 15 levels from the Amiga version, and the "Extra" levels are the two from the Apple Macintosh version.

Anyway, that's XOR. Enjoy!

XOR is a map-based puzzle game, rather like the Repton series. It was written by Astral Software (Paul Carruthers and Ian Downend) and published by Longman Logotron in 1987
